Mushroom House/ Black’s Beach, La Jolla

NOW OPEN

If you’re looking for an easy hike to the beach, this one is for you! Only 1/2 mile to the beach and the pathway is paved.

Once you reach the beach, if you turn left you’ll see the “Mushroom House.” It was originally built as a guest house. In order to access it, guests would take a tram from up above. Must be nice to be rich!

Here are the deets-

  • Trailhead: 9582 La Jolla Farms Rd. Right at the intersection of Black Gold Rd & La Jolla Farms Rd
  • Distance: 1 mile round trip
  • Dog Friendly: Yep! 🙂 From April-Oct, dogs are allowed before 9am and after 6pm. Nov-March dogs are allowed after 4pm. Leash is required!
  • Parking: On the street. 2 hr limit between certain hrs

Tip: Bring a hat, there’s 0 shade on this trail!

How do you get to Black’s Beach?

Take the paved path down to the beach and make a right. Walk along the shore for about 1/2 mile and you’ll reach the only clothing optional beach in Southern California. You’ll see people playing frisbee, volleyball, boogey boarding, swimming, and surfing in the nude.

Post- hike beer/ lunch: Shore Rider. Classic beach bar just steps away from La Jolla Shores. Parking here can be challenging so be patient
